Marist Falls to Canisius, 3-1
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist women's soccer team dropped a 3-1 match against Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opponent Canisius on Oct. 22.
Following an own goal, Marist was able to capitalize off a corner kick in the 31st minute. Sophomore Danielle Glazer (Queens, N.Y.) drove the ball to senior Marjana Maksuti (Delmar, N.Y.), who headed the ball in the net for her second score of the season.
Canisius (5-13, 4-5) pulled ahead toward the end of the first half. Freshman Samantha Gagliano fired the ball into the net after corralling a shot that had hit the right post. The Red Foxes' closest attempt at a goal came in the 79th minute when a header by senior Amanda Epstein (Jericho, N.Y.) hit the crossbar.
Marist owned a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks and Epstein had a match-high four shots. Freshman goalkeeper Kailee De Franks made eight saves in the Golden Griffins' win and senior Mallory Illsley had three shots.
The Red Foxes (2-9-4, 1-4-3) will continue their four-match homestand Oct. 25 when they take on MAAC rival Monmouth in the fifth annual Pink Out game. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Tenney Stadium.
