Marist Hosts Soccer Doubleheader Wednesday
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Marist men’s and women’s soccer teams will host a Metro Athletic Atlantic Conference doubleheader on Wednesday, Oct. 1 at Tenney Stadium. The men’s team will begin MAAC play by taking on Manhattan at 4 p.m., with the women following shortly thereafter taking on conference rival Siena at 7 p.m. Live stats will be available and a live video stream will be available via the Red Fox Network.
Men’s Last Time Out
The Marist men’s soccer team picked up its second draw of the season, playing University of New Hampshire to a 1-1 tie in its final non-conference match of the year Sept. 26. With the draw, the Red Foxes moved to 4-2-2 on the season.
Player to Watch
Senior Myles Ashong (Pleasant Valley, N.Y.) is off to a strong start for the Red Foxes this season. Through the team’s first eight games Ashong leads the Red Foxes with three goals scored, six points, and eight shots on goal.
Scouting Manhattan
In its final non-conference match of the year, Manhattan dropped a 1-0 overtime decision to La Salle on Sept. 26. With the loss, the Jaspers fell to 1-4-1 on the season. Sophomore goalkeeper Alex Coates McDowall ranks second in the MAAC with 41 saves.
Women’s Last Time Out
The Marist women’s soccer team dropped its first MAAC match, losing 2-1 to Manhattan on Sept. 27. The Red Foxes’ record dropped to 1-6-1 and 0-1-1 in MAAC play.
Player to Watch
Freshman Brianna Robinson (Jackson, N.J.) scored her first ever collegiate goal for the Red Foxes against Manhattan on Sept. 27. In six games played, Robinson leads the team in shots with 12 and is tied for the team lead in points with two.
Scouting Siena
The Siena Saints improved to 4-5-1 and 1-1 in MAAC play as they defeated conference foe Iona 1-0 on Sept. 27. Sophomore Tara Sobierajski leads the way for the Saints with nine shots on goal, three assists, and five points.
Looking Ahead
The men’s team will continue MAAC play when it travels to Fairfield on Oct. 4 at 7 p.m.
The women’s team will host conference opponent Fairfield on Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. at Tenney Stadium.
