MARSHALL EARNS SECOND TEAM ALL-GWC HONORS

NEWARK, N.J. – On the eve of the Great West Conference tournament, All-Conference honors for the 2011 were awarded and Delaware State University’s Randall Marshall (Laurel, Md.) was named to the Second Team All-GWC.
Marshall, a junior defender, started all 18 regular season games for the Hornets. She has two goals on the season, totaling four points. With seven shots and three on goal, Marshall holds a .286 shot percentage and .429 shot on goal percentage.
GWC champion Utah Valley swept all the major awards with Offensive Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year going to sophomore forward Natalie Young. Young led the Great West with 10 goals and 26 points and tied for the conference lead with 0.53 goals per game, 1.37 points per game, six assists and three game-winning goals. She was twice named the Great West Player of the Week.
Sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Sack was named the Defensive Player of the Year while Wolverine head coach Brent Anderson was named the Coach of the Year. Anderson led his team to a 5-1 conference record and their second GWC title.
All honors were nominated and voted on by the conference’s head coaches.
The Hornets (2-14-2; 1-4-1 GWC), a six-seed, will match up against No. 3 South Carolina State Friday at 4:30 p.m. at Lubetkin Field at J. Malcolm Simon Stadium on the NJIT campus. The two teams previously matched up on Oct. 13 in Orangeburg, S.C. with the Bulldogs coming out on top, 2-1.
