Maybin Earns RMAC Player of the Year
Colorado Springs, Colorado: The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference has announced this seasons All-Conference performers and the Regis men's soccer team has earned six selections; two first team, one second team, and three honorable mention.
Continuing to add to his legacy with numerous accomplishments and achievements, senior forward Martin Maybin has received the RMAC's highest award in being named the 2014 Player of the Year. He is the first Ranger to receive this honor since Lance Snoodgrass won back-to-back awards in 2002 and 2003.
Maybin has become one of the Rangers most decorated players, setting new records and collecting numerous awards. The Northern Ireland native has broken two all-time scoring records this season: most goals scored and most points earned in a career. In the double overtime win on the road over Colorado Christian, Maybin scored two goals, one was the game-winner in the 107th minute to surpass the previous goals scored record at 45 from the 2007 to 2010 career of Nathan Kafer. He has since scored six more goals and the record now currently stands at 52.
In the Ranger 3-2 win over UC-Colorado Springs, Maybin netted a hat trick breaking another record and setting a new mark in most points earned in a career. The old record stood at 118 from Lance Snoodgrass from 2000 to 2003, he now owns that record currently with 131 points.
Maybin has also been named to the RMAC First Team, his third time receiving this honor. He joins part of an elite group becoming just the third player in Regis history to attain this award in three consecutive seasons (2012, 2013, 2014). The other two are Gary Cole (2008, 2009, 2010) and Lance Snoodgrass (2001, 2002, 2003).
The forward has scored 15 goals this season, seven of which were game-winners, tallied five assists to sit atop the conference standings in goals, goals per game, points, and points per game.
