CARY, North Carolina — The 2014 College Cup’s come and gone, with Virginia snapping up its seventh national title with a 4-2 win over UCLA on penalties after a scoreless 110 minutes. Here’s a look at TopDrawerSoccer.com’s Best XI of the tournament.
But before we get to that, there’s the business of crowning the TDS Men’s College Cup MVP, and that award goes to Virginia’s Kyler Sullivan. The Cavaliers’ defense down the stretch was dominant, and Sullivan’s presence at center back was hard to miss. He led the Virginia back line to a pair of shutouts in the College Cup, and despite the nerves of the moment he was just about everywhere on Sunday. There’s no question that Virginia’s defense gets the majority of the praise for the Cavaliers’ second national title in the last six years.
