Men’s Division I Top 25: UCLA charging back
It was a quick stay for Georgetown as the No. 1 team in the land. The Hoyas only lasted a week before a loss to unranked St. John's sent the Big East squad back down the polls. Georgetown checks in at No. 3 this week due to the narrow 1-0 road loss, which ended a three-game unbeaten run.
The new No. 1 team in the land is UCLA, which defeated Stanford and California by the same 2-1 score line over the weekend. The six road points helped put UCLA back in the top spot in the conference temporarily and extended UCLA’s unbeaten run to six games with only one remaining in the regular season for Jorge Salcedo’s side.
Notre Dame returns to No. 2 in the rankings following an impressive 3-1 road win against Wake Forest. The Irish are tied with No. 7 Maryland at the top of the ACC standings with only one game left for both programs. Patrick Wall was the hero of the day for the Irish with seven saves in the road victory.
Washington, helped by the results of the other top squads, moves up a spot despite having the weekend off. The Huskies will have a busy schedule coming up with three games in the next two weeks including the looming clash against California on Sunday.
Speaking of the Golden Bears, Kevin Grimes side take up the No. 5 spot. The 2-1 home loss to UCLA drops the Golden Bears from the top spot in the conference for the first time this season. With the next three games on the road, the path to the conference crown is much more difficult for the Berkeley Bears.
Outside of the top five, Akron continues its methodical climb up the rankings with a move to No. 8 this week. The Zips have won six of their last seven games – and every result has been a one-score game.
