MEN’S SOCCER BATTLES BENTLEY TO 1-1 TIE
WALTHAM, MA -- Wilmington University battled the host Falcons of Bentley University to a 1-1 tie in non-conference men’s soccer action on Friday afternoon.
The Wildcats struck first in the 19th minute off the foot of junior Kresimir Nurnberger, set up by sophomore Eddie Kowalo. Kowalo fed a centering pass to Nurnberger from the left wing to the goal line, giving Nurnberger a tap-in goal.
The Falcons though answered back with just two seconds left before the end of the first half. Boisvert took possession from a long-ball over the top of Wilmington's defense for a breakaway goal, tying the game at one.
The best two chances of overtime both belonged to Bentley's Brennan DaCosta. With just over a minute left in the first overtime he hit the post. With four minutes left in the second overtime, DaCosta took a chip from senior Eric Ulmer on the right post, but his shot was saved by Wilmington goalie Spyros Stergiotis.
Bentley held a slight advantage in shots, 12-10, and had four corner kicks to Wilmington's one. The Wildcats’ John Allen recorded three saves and allowed one goal during the first half, and was relieved by Stergiotis, who notched two saves as he closed out the game.
Following the game, Wilmington’s record now stands at 0-1-1, while Bentley is currently 0-0-1 on the year. The Wildcats continue their road trip on Sunday afternoon, when they travel to take on the Ravens of Franklin Pierce University. Game time is slated for 1:00 PM.
