Men’s soccer capitalizes on opportunities
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico men's soccer team capitalized on key opportunities to defeat South Carolina, 2-1 at the UNM Soccer Complex on Saturday night. The Lobos scored late in the second half on a header by Matt Dorsey in the 85th minute to give the team a one-goal lead which they held for the remainder of the game.
In the 28th minute, the Lobos (4-9-0, 2-3-0 C-USA) got on the board first as Grayson Dupont posted his first goal of the season and his first career goal off an assist from Omar Grey. On that goal, Grey fed a grounded cross in the box to Dupont, who put away the chance. The Lobo's held that lead for the remainder of the first half and took a 1-0 lead into the break.

"I think the guys played well tonight, we took a couple of chances and had good energy the whole game," head coach Jeremy Fishbein said. "I think with all of the recent news, the guys are playing with a little chip on their shoulder now."
Midway through the second half, however, the Gamecocks (3-8-0, 0-5-0 C-USA) answered back with a goal from Petter Soelberg to tie the game at one-apiece.
The Lobos continued to apply pressure on South Carolina with five shots in the second half. In the 85th minute, UNM capitalized on the opportunity to take the lead after a free kick by Nick Taylor. Matt Dorsey was on the receiving end of the kick and headed the ball into the goal to put the Lobos up with less than five minutes to go in the game. The Gamecocks threatened to tie the game on a couple of occasions with shots on goal Soelberg, but UNM goalkeeper Ford Parker made great diving saves to preserve the lead and the win for the Lobos.
