Men's Soccer Defeats Sacramento State 3-0
AMBLER, Pa. – Temple men's soccer defeated Sacramento State 3-0 on Sunday afternoon at Ambler Sports Complex for its first win of the season. Olli Tynkkynen led the way for Temple with his first two ever collegiate goals.
"We were moving the ball quickly, our speed of play was very good, and we had some great services in the box," said head coach David MacWilliams. "Olli Tynkkynen is a technical finisher, and if you give him some opportunities in the box, he'll put them away like the two he did today."
Tynkkynen scored the first goal in the 15th minute. Off a corner kick by Jared Martinelli, the ball bounced around in the box off a few people before Tynkkynen got control and buried it past the goalkeeper. Tynkkynen's second goal came in the 29th minute. Matt Mahoney streaked down the right side of the field with the ball and made a cross to the middle of the box where Tynkkynen put the ball in the net past a sliding goalkeeper.
Chas Wilson added an insurance goal in the 79th minute off a corner kick. Jonah Williams pushed the ball towards the net and Wilson was able to get his shin on the ball to give it enough power to reach the back of the net.
Dan Scheck got the shutout in net for the Owls.
The Owls outshot the Hornets 17-3 in the game. Temple put 10 shots on goal while not allowing any shots on goal by Sacramento State.
"It wasn't just the defense today; it was everybody working as a unit... Everybody needs to be on the same page, and we did that today."
Temple begins a four game road streak at No. 15 Penn State next Friday at 7:00 p.m.
