Men's Soccer Drops 2-1 Decision at Ashland
ASHLAND, Ohio - Ohio Dominican's men's soccer team couldn't overcome a two-goal deficit at GLIAC foe Ashland, falling 2-1 to the host Eagles on a cold, dreary Thursday evening.
With the setback, the Panthers' conference title chances took a hit as they dropped to second place behind Saginaw Valley State (Mich.) following the Cardinals' 2-0 win over Tiffin this evening. ODU now stands 5-3-3 in the GLIAC and 6-5-3 overall, while Ashland improves to 4-8-3 (3-5-2 GLIAC) on the season.
Junior Casey Weddle (Cincinnati, OH) scored on a free kick for the Panthers from the right wing about 30 yards away to the far side goal at the 72:47 mark of the second half, but it wasn't enough to rally ODU, which gave up two first half scores for the time this year.
The Eagles took control early as Jamie Dollar headed home a corner kick just 105 seconds into the game and repeated the sequence less than 22 minutes later at the 23:12 mark for his fourth goal of the year.
ODU returns home to host Lake Erie in its final regular season GLIAC contest at 4:30 p.m. this Sunday, October 23 at Panther Field.
