Men's Soccer Erupts For 4-1 Win Against CAN
NEW ROCHELLE, NY – The Iona College men's soccer team revved its offensive engine in the second half and found itself lapping the Canisius College Golden Griffins in a come-from-behind 4-1 win. Sophomore Tomas Jamett, freshman Mauro Bravo and senior Killian Colombie scored for the Maroon & Gold.
GAME SUMMARY
Canisius scored the first goal of the game in the 57'. Filippo Tamburini took a corner kick from Bilel Bai and was able to deliver it into the lower left side. The goal came at a point when the Gaels where outshooting the Golden Griffins by 14, 15-1.
Iona finally broke through in the 65'. Senior Sebastian Gordillo came off the bench and delivered a corner kick in towards the back post where Jamett was waiting. The sophomore defender subtly turned his shoulders and created a deflection that tricked Canisius goalie Bryce Tramuta.
Jamett scored the game-winning goal, and his second of the game, in the 78'. Senior Humbert Ferrer came up from his defensive post and positioned himself as a big body in the box. The captain got possession in the box and found Jamett. Ferrer fed it to his fellow defenseman who then one-timed a shot from 10 yards out.
The Maroon & Gold's final two goals came within 26 seconds of each other. Bravo scored his third goal of the season in the 84'. The one-time MAAC Rookie of the Week cleaned up the mess that was created by freshman Esad Mackic, who initially fired a shot on goal that was punched right toward his classmate.
Colombie scored in the 85' for his team-leading four goal of the season. Bravo had the ball on the left side and slung a lofted pass toward the back right post where Colombie was waiting to stuff it in close.
