Men’s Soccer Falls at Lafayette
EASTON, PA – The Lafayette Leopards netted to goals in each half to cruise to a 4-0 victory over Siena Men's Soccer Friday evening at Oaks Stadium in Easton, PA. The Saints were overpowered in their 2019 opener, enduring a test with many new faces on the field.
Taking on the Saints for the sixth time in each school's history, Lafayette (1-0) wasted no time in pulling ahead, scoring in the 14th and 37th minutes to lead, 2-0, in the first half. The Leopards continued to pick on Siena sophomore goalkeeper Greg Monroe in the second half, extending their advantage with scores in the 64th and 75th minutes.
Unable to walk away with a win in their season opener for the third consecutive season, Siena (0-1) used five total shots, including a pair on-goal, to stay competitive in their first of three road bouts to kick off the new year. Junior Alejandro Riquelme steadied the team offensively, attempting shots in the 32nd and 41st minutes of the match.
The Saints were out-shot, 16-5 in the loss, including 8-2 on-net, with Lafayette holding the advantage with five corner kicks to the Saints' three.
Despite giving up each goal, Monroe played the entirety of the contest in-between-the-pipes, making four saves in the process.
Siena will continue its season-opening weekend on the road on Sunday, September 1, remaining in the Keystone State to do so. The Saints will head west to face Saint Francis (PA), with kickoff set for 2:00 p.m. in Loretto, PA.
