Men's Soccer Falls In OT To Saint Peter's
JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Saint Peter’s Omar Crowl scored five minutes into the first overtime to give the Peacocks (3-10-0, 1-4-0 MAAC) a 2-1 victory over the Marist men’s soccer team (5-5-3, 1-3-1 MAAC) Saturday afternoon. The loss is the Red Foxes first loss in overtime this season after going 1-0-2 in previous overtime matches.
After a scoreless first half Saint Peter’s struck first in the 49th minute of the second half. A rebound that bounced off the cross bar found the foot of Maddee Marcel who then tucked it past the keeper. The Peacock lead would only last 20 minutes as a superb individual effort from freshman Erik Dahl (Helsingborgs, Sweden), who beat both defenders and the goalkeeper off the dribble, would even the score at one.
Saint Peter’s would apply more pressure in the closing minutes of the match but the Red Foxes were able to hang on and force overtime. Freshman goalkeeper Mark Rajovic (Katonah, N.Y.) made two saves in the final minutes of the game and overtime. Rajovic finished the game with five saves overall.
Saint Peter’s 96th minute goal came from a far side corner kick that beat the defenders and found Crowl’s foot, Crowl took advantaged and knocked it into the netting to give the Peacocks the sudden death victory.
The Red Foxes return to action on the road again as they make the trip to Buffalo, N.Y. to take on Canisius (7-4-2, 2-2-1 MAAC) on Wednesday, Oct. 22.
