Men's Soccer Has Four-Game Unbeaten Streak Stapped With 1-0 Loss to Dowling
Wilmington University saw their four-game unbeaten streak come to a halt, following a 1-0 loss at the hands of the host Golden Lions of Dowling College in non-conference men’s soccer action on Wednesday evening.
In a game that was played under a steady downpour for the entire 90 minutes, neither team could get on the board during the first half. Dowling (5-4-3) scored the game’s lone goal just over two minutes into the start of the second period, as Gerassimos Magoulas finished a cross from Ajani Jones to give the Golden Lions a 1-0 lead. That would be the only offense for the game, and Dowling was able to hold on for the one-goal victory.
Spyros Stergiotis notched three saves in goal for Wilmington (6-5-4), while Corey Desmond turned away five shots for Dowling. The Wildcats out-shot the Golden Lions by a 15-8 margin, and held a lopsided 9-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Wilmington hits road again for its next contest, as the 'Cats travel to take on the Deacons of Bloomfield College in a CACC tilt on Saturday afternoon. Game time is slated for 1:00 PM.
