Men's Soccer Hosts Iona in MAAC Showdown
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.- The Marist Men’s Soccer team will host Iona in a MAAC showdown at 7 p.m. at Tenney Stadium. Tonight’s game will be a battle of the two top teams in the conference. The Red Foxes are 5-2-3 overall and 1-0-1 in the MAAC. The Gaels are 5-3-2 overall and sit atop the conference with a 2-0-0 record in MAAC play.
Marist is coming off a 0-0 draw with conference foe Fairfield, while Iona defeated Rider 1-0 in their last contest. Both teams have gained attention and recognition for their strong play early in the season. In this week’s National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Northeast Regional poll, the Gaels and the Red Foxes are ranked fifth and sixth, trespectively.
Part of Marist’s success has been the strong play of starting goalie Mark Rajovic. The freshman keeper was named MAAC Wilson Rookie of the Week and ECAC Co-Rookie of the Week. Rajovic has only allowed five goals in nine matches this year.
Following tonight’s game, Marist will host Quinnipiac on October 15 in another MAAC matchup.
