Men's Soccer Plays to Scoreless Tie
Hamilton College's Victoria Freeman '16 scored in the 71st minute and the Continentals held on for a 1-0 NESCAC win against the Bates College Bobcats at Hamilton's Love Field on Sept. 14.
Freeman has two goals this year and five in her career with the Continentals (2-1-0 overall, 1-1 NESCAC). Becca Rees '16 was credited with her seventh career assist, and Liza Gergenti '14 made five saves for her 15th shutout at Hamilton.
Anabel Schmelz ’14 stopped six shots for the Bobcats (2-1-0, 1-1), who lost for the first time this year in three games. The Continentals held a 19-12 shot advantage.
Hamilton took the lead after Freeman knocked home a corner kick that was taken by Rees. Bates’ best chance to tie the score came with less than 15 seconds left when the Bobcats were awarded a direct kick from about 30 yards out but the shot went over the crossbar.
The Continentals have won all three meetings in the series. Bates has yet to score in those three games.
Hamilton returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 18, with a non-conference game at SUNY Cortland. The Bobcats travel to Brandeis University for a non-conference game on Sunday, Sept. 15.
