Men's soccer team falls 3-0 to Birmingham Southern
For the first time all season, the Centre College men's soccer team has lost back-to-back matches as the Colonels lost to Birmingham Southern College 3-0 in the regular-season finale Sunday, Oct. 30 in Birmingham, Ala.
Coming off a 3-1 defeat to No. 25 Oglethorpe University Friday, Centre had not dropped two consecutive matches since the final two regular season matches of last year.
The loss drops the Colonels to 11-5-2 overall and 5-3-1 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, while Birmingham Southern improves to 10-6 overall and 6-3 in league play.
The Panthers got an early goal from Garner Shivers 6:40 into the match off an assist from Tyler Evans for a 1-0 lead.
Shivers added his second goal of the day 22:50 into the second half off an assist from Tony Crocker.
Shivers and Jeremy Evans then assisted on Tyler Evans goal at the 53:46 mark for the final 3-0 tally.
Centre out-shot the Panthers 11-8 on the day, while Birmingham Southern held an 8-5 advantage in corner kicks. Senior Chris Jackson (Oxford, Ohio) took the loss in goal for the Colonels. Jackson made three saves.
Centre will make the trip back to Birmingham, Ala. Friday, Oct. 4 to play in the inaugural SCAC Men's Soccer Tournament. The Colonels will enter as the fifth seed and will once again face Birmingham Southern, which will enter the tournament as the fourth seed. Start time is set for 5 p.m. CST.
