Men's Soccer: Hope International Stops ACU, 8-0
Fullerton, Calif. – Hope International University (3-1-0) scored five goals in the first half and outshot 27-6 in an 8-0 non-conference intercollegiate men's soccer victory over Arizona Christian University (0-5), Saturday, September 17, at Fullerton College. ACU suffered its third shutout of the season and second shutout of the week against GSAC opponents.
Arizona Christian meets La Sierra University, ranked 24th in the NAIA, Friday, Sept. 23, at 3 p.m., for its first home match of the 2011 season at Rose Mofford Sports Complex in Phoenix.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jorge Arauz (Las Vegas, Nev./Durango H.S.) made eight saves on 17 Hope International shots on goal, and two Hope goalkeepers saved both ACU shots they faced in the second half. Hope also attempted six corner kicks and scored two penalty kicks and a direct free kick. Junior midfielder Matt Howard scored three goals and an assist, and junior forward Edgar Bran scored the first two goals of the match and assisted on HIU's sixth and seventh goals.
Senior forward Brett Bowman (Glendale, Ariz./Northwest Christian School) attempted three of ACU's shots, and sophomore midfielder Sidney Jones (La Ceiba, Honduras/Gatlinburg Pitman H.S.) shot twice on goal in the second half.
