The latest men’s college soccer Player of the Week is Emil Jaaskelainen, a senior forward who is ensuring the Akron Zips peak at the perfect point of the season.

The England native began his week with a double in a 6-1 crushing of Wright State. That would serve as a preview for the outrageous 30-minute hat trick he scored to race Akron out to a 3-0 start in an eventual 3-2 defeat of Villanova. With 14 scored in 13 matches, Jasskelainen now leads the nation in goals, while Akron enjoys a six-game win streak.

Men’s Team of the Week: October 7-October 13

GK: Marco Brougher, California - In a result that shocked college soccer, Brougher delivered an all-time performance with seven saves, including an 80th-minute penalty kick, as the Bears upset No. 2 Pittsburgh 1-0 on the road.

D: Jackson D'Alessandro, UC Riverside - The sophomore assisted a goal and did not leave the field once as the Highlanders defeated UC Irvine 1-0, then drew Cal Poly 0-0.

D: Nick Dang, Virginia - A college veteran at his very best, Dang was colossal as the Cavaliers handed No. 7 James Madison its first loss of the season before scoring the lone goal to push the team past Boston College.   

D: Sam Zeeman, Houston Christian - Zeeman played all but seven minutes and scored a goal as the Huskies defeated Southern Indiana and Eastern Illinois with back-to-back clean sheets.

M: Daniel D'Ippolito, Fordham - The New York native continued his elite form, scoring twice and assisting another two as Fordham drew Saint Louis at home, then upset No. 19 Dayton on the road.

M: Yoshiya Okawa, UNC Greensboro - Okawa was near flawless as he scored twice to help the Spartans defeat Radford 3-0, then delivered a 72nd-minute game-winner versus Furman.

M: Dylan Sumner, Mercyhurst - His hat trick versus St. Francis (Pa.) was all the team needed in the 3-0 victory.

M: Sean Kerrigan, Michigan State - The senior midfielder scored both goals as the Spartans earned a crucial conference victory versus Wisconsin.

F: Emil Jaaskelainen, Akron - Continuing his scintillating form of late, Jaaskelainen scored five as Akron earned its fifth and sixth consecutive wins.

F: Bennett Painter, Bowling Green - Painter delivered one of the best individual performances of the season as he recorded a hat trick plus two assists to help the Falcons fly past Detroit Mercy 5-2.

F: Kadeem Agard, Mercer - Agard lands on the team of the week after his hat trick made the difference in a 3-0 defeat of the Virginia Military Institute.
