Midwestern rolls past Adams State, 3-0
ALAMOSA, Colo. -- Midwestern State got plenty of midfield support Sunday afternoon taking a 3-0 result over Adams State at the ASU Lacrosse and Soccer Field.
Senior Aaron Douthit and freshman Ben Clarvis accounted for two of the three tallies for the Mustangs, who improved to 5-1-2 on the season.
"It was good to see our midfielder get in on the action," MSU coach Doug Elder said. "We told both of our outside mids to cut to the goal and that's exactly what they did."
MSU victimized the Adams State's three-wide back line by working wide angles which resulted when Douthit followed his own shot with a goal in the 44th minute.
"We had an average first half and had a hard time adjusting to the (artificial) turf," Elder said. "In the second we were able to get adjusted. There were moments we played but we just need to find more consistency."
Sophomore forward Len Smith gave the Mustangs a two-goal edge beating the ASC keeper to the far post on an assist from Andrew Power in the 53rd minute.
Then two minutes later Clarvis found the back of the net on an assist from Smith to effectively put the match away.
Sophomore goalkeeper Nathan Kenyon made two saves to notch his second shutout of the season, while Elder lauded redshirt-freshman Kwame Adu-wusu's play at outside back.
The Mustangs have posted consecutive clean sheets for the third time this season and are allowing 0.50 goals per game.
Midwestern returns to action Friday night against Southern Nazarene at the MSU Soccer Field. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
