Complete Patriot League Release
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Following a week which included pitching her 10th shutout of the season, Lehigh women's soccer freshman Sam Miller has been named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week, as announced on Monday. Miller made three saves in a slim 1-0 defeat to Princeton Tuesday before making a pair of saves in a scoreless draw at Loyola Saturday.
The award marks Miller's fourth of her career after being named Rookie of the Week on Aug. 30 and Sept. 5, and Goalkeeper of the Week on Sept. 12. Miller was also named the NSCAA Division I Player of the Week on the 13th. Overall, the Mountain Hawks have now garnered 10 weekly awards this season.
Miller began the week by stopping three-of-four shots sent her way against No. 1 regionally-ranked Princeton Tuesday. The Tigers had scored at least two goals in seven of their first 11 games of the season. The Commack, New York native then had a two-save shutout at Loyola Saturday as a backbone for a defense that pitched its 10th shutout of the season, third in league play.
Miller has recorded a shutout in 76.9 percent of her games so far (10-of-13), tops in the nation. If the season ended today, the mark would stand third in NCAA history for a single season.
At 8-3-2 on the season, including 2-2-1 in the Patriot League, the Mountain Hawks return home on Saturday to host Boston University at 1 p.m.
