Miller named Patriot League Goalie of Week
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Following a four-save shutout in the season opener against Monmouth Friday, Lehigh women’s soccer sophomore Sam Miller has been named the Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week, as announced on Monday. The award marks Miller’s sixth-career weekly honor and fourth Goalie of the Week recognition.
Three of Miller’s four saves came in the final 23:12 of regulation as Monmouth was making a late charge. Miller's final save was an impressive leaping stop to punch the ball out of harm's way and force overtime, helping the Mountain Hawks open the season with a scoreless tie against Monmouth for a second straight year.
In the end, Lehigh shut-out a Monmouth team that averaged 2.86 goals per game last season and was shut-out only three times in 21 games last year. Now owning 13 career shutouts, Miller has not allowed a goal in 220 career minutes against a strong Monmouth program that has won four straight MAAC Regular Season Titles.
As a freshman, Miller was the Patriot League leader in goals against average (0.64), save percentage (0.859) and shutouts (12)
Lehigh will return to action next weekend when it heads to Penn on Friday, Aug. 25 (8 p.m.) and Temple on Sunday (6 p.m.).
