Complete Patriot League Release
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Following a sensational start to her collegiate career, Lehigh women's soccer freshman Sam Miller has been named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week, as announced on Monday. Miller stopped all 12 shots sent her way over a pair of shutouts as the Mountain Hawks tied Monmouth and beat LIU Brooklyn to open the 2016 campaign.
Miller was poised in the goal all week, especially on Monday vs. preseason MAAC favorite Monmouth as Monmouth fired 28 shots, but Miller made eight saves while handling crosses and everything sent her way. The Commack, New York native made three saves in the first half, four in the second and one in the second overtime.
Against LIU Brooklyn Friday, Miller made four saves (two in each half), including some strong stops to keep the Blackbirds off the scoreboard.
In the end, Lehigh began its season with two straight shutouts for just the second time since 2006 (the other being 2014). Dating back to last season, the Mountain Hawks have shut-out their opponents for the last 273:57.
Miller and the Mountain Hawks return home on Wednesday to host Marist at 6 p.m. before heading to Mount St. Mary's on Saturday to face the Mountaineers.
