Miralrio All-Region/ Rivera To MLS Combine
MIRALRIO NAMED NSCAA SOCCER ALL REGION/RIVERA TO PLAY AT MLS COMBINE
NORFOLK, VA—Old Dominion University sophomore midfielder Jesse Miralrio (Arlington, TX.) has been named to the third team NSCAA All Southeast Region team, while senior forward Sydney Rivera (Hampton, NJ.) has been selected to play at the MLS Combine, Jan. 8-13 in Fort Lauderdale.
Miralrio finished third on the team with 10 total points on three goals and four assists. He earned third team All-Conference-USA honors and C-USA All-Tournament honors.
Rivera, C-USA’s Tournament Offensive MVP completed the season as the team’s leading scorer with 18 total points on nine goals. In addition, Rivera had four game-winning goals and was a perfect three-for-three in penalty kicks. He scored eight of those nine goals in six of the last seven matches, including four in the C-USA Tournament. Rivera tied for 38th nationally in goal scoring and third in C-USA . He completed his career with 11 goals, one assist for 23 points.
The Monarchs finished the season 13-7-1 and captured the C-USA tournament championship, the school’s first ever team title in this league. The Monarchs advanced to the fifth straight and 11th of the last 13 NCAA tournaments, beating St. Francis Brooklyn, 3-1 before losing a heartbreaking 2-1 double-overtime decision at No. 8 Georgetown in the final seconds.
ODU head coach Alan Dawson is now 206-111-32 after 18 seasons in Norfolk. Overall, he is 335-141-42 in 27 seasons which rank him among the nation’s top 13 active coaches.
