Monarchs fall to Rams 5-1 in 1st road test
RICHMOND, Va. – Old Dominion men’s soccer [3-3-1] fell 5-1 in their first road game of the season to VCU [2-5-0], Tuesday night at the Sports Backers Stadium. Luc Fatton scored three of five unanswered VCU goals propelling the Rams to their second win of the season.
The Monarchs got on the board first on a goal by CJ Taylor, his first of the season, off the assist from Jimmy Filerman in the seventh minute.
It was the Luc Fatton show from then on as he scored three unanswered goals for a first-half hat-trick. The goals were his first three goals of the season. Jorge Herranz assisted on Fatton’s first goal at 25:06. Steve Dal Molin contributed on Fatton’s second goal [28:08] while Herranz and Dakota Barnathan both got in on the third goal [31:17] to close the half.
The Rams continued their scoring drive in the second half as Herranz and Rafael Andrade Santos contributed two more goals putting the game out of reach for the Monarchs. Santos assisted on Herranz’s goal in the 52nd minute while scoring an unassisted goal in the 72nd minute.
Christian Coulson and Christian Wirth saw time for the first time this season. Alex Tiesenhausen dropped to 3-3-1 in net giving up three goals in the first half, while Coulson forfeited two goals in the second as the Rams collected 19 shots on the night. ODU finished the game with 17 shots, five on goal, and 14 corner kicks on the night,
The Monarchs return to action when they travel to Birmingham, Alabama for their second conference match in a test against the Blazers of UAB. First kick is set for 7 p.m. CT/8 p.m. EST. Fans can follow live stats or watch on CUSA-TV.
