Monmouth Edges Saints on Senior Day
LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – Alexis McTamney scored the decisive goal in the 43rd minute as two-time defending MAAC Regular Season Champion Monmouth sneaked past Siena Women’s Soccer 1-0 on Senior Day at Siena Field. All seven Siena seniors started and saw significant action in a hard fought defensive battle in which the teams combined for just five shots on target.
McTamney’s score came with just 2:10 remaining in the first half, when her target in a tight window from the left of the box deflected just inside the near post. Sophie Centi earned the assist on the goal for Monmouth (8-1-2, 4-0) which held a 15-6 edge in shots including a 4-1 margin in shots on goal and an 8-5 advantage in corners.
Senior goalkeeper Liz Rogan made three saves for Siena (5-5-2, 1-3), while Sydney Lavan stopped one shot to post her sixth shutout in 11 matches for the Hawks which improved to 21-1-2 in MAAC Regular Season action since joining the conference.
Sophomore midfielder Madison Vasquez had the Saints’ attempt on target, a header into the chest of Lavan in the 25th minute. Siena fought hard to chase the tying goal and had a few quality opportunities over the final 18 minutes, but was unable to find the equalizer.
Although the match marked the Saints’ final regular season weekend home date of the fall, Siena still has three home games remaining including Wednesday when they host Canisius at 3 p.m.
