WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - Monmouth University freshman Alexis McTamney (Bordentown, N.J./Bordentown Regional) scored her first career goals, while sophomore Brianne Boyle (Hazlet, N.J./Raritan) tallied the game-winner in the 78th minute, as the Hawks improved to 3-0 on the season with a 3-2 victory over Seton Hall on Monday night on The Great Lawn.

"Tonight was a terrific team effort from our entire team," said head coach Krissy Turner, who has guided her squad to a 3-0 mark to open a season for the third time. "It was an awesome environment with a lot of fans and we rose to the challenge."

Monmouth took a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute of action when McTamney netted her first career goal, tapping a cross from senior Alexandra Baca (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) into the bottom right corner of the net, by Seton Hall goalkeeper Jennifer Pettigrew.

The Hawks grabbed a 2-0 lead when McTamney followed her own shot that was originally saved by Pettigrew in the 18th minute.

In the 32nd minute, the Pirates trimmed the lead in half, as Kaitlyn Ritter nodded in a direct feed from Ashley Clarke and Sarah Cortes. Marie Klemme nearly knotted the score with 1:15 remaining in the stanza but her shot whistled off the crossbar.

The Pirates rallied to tie the match at 2-2 in the 52nd minute when Meghan Hayes found Ritter for her second score of the match and third of the season, besting Monmouth netminder Ashley Lewis (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Boro).

Boyle unleashed the game-winner in the 78th minute as the midfielder settled a ball from classmate Monique Goncalves (Warren, N.J./Watchung Regional) with her back to the goal, spun and knocked a volley into the far upper 90, giving Monmouth the 3-2 edge with just over 12 minutes to play.

Turner added, "Alexis finished two great chances and Bri's finish was awesome."

Monmouth held a 12-10 edge in shots for the match, while both sides generated four corner kicks apiece.

Pettigrew made four saves in net for the Pirates, while Lewis, who surrendered her first goals of the season, made two stops for the Blue and White.

Monmouth returns to action on Thursday night, when the Hawks host NJIT on The Great Lawn at 7:00 p.m.
