WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - The Monmouth University women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to visiting Quinnipiac University in Northeast Conference action on Friday night on The Great Lawn. With the loss, Monmouth, now 5-2 at home, falls to 9-6 overall and 5-2 in league play.

"We need to play with more urgency and understand that a berth to the conference playoffs is still at stake," stated head coach Krissy Turner. "We will look to rebound on Sunday against CCSU."

Quinnipiac took an early lead, capitalizing on a Monmouth giveaway in the 10th minute. Following a failed clearance, a ball was fed back into the Bobcats' attacking third where Crystal Burns fed a low cross into the box that Shauna Edwards deposited into the far netting for the 1-0 lead.

Monmouth knotted the score in the 25th minute, as a foul just outside of the box led to an indirect opportunity for the Hawks. On the restart, sophomore Dana Costello fed junior Stacy Kadell with a rolling ball that the defender struck into the bottom of the crossbar for the 1-1 tie.

With five minutes remaining before the break, the Bobcats took a 2-1 lead on Chelsea Smith's score as her shot from the left side found the opposite upper ninety for the advantage.

Quinnipiac (4-8-1, 3-4 NEC) held a 10-8 advantage in shots, forcing Monmouth goalkeeper Jocelyn McCoy to make five saves, one stop away from tying a season-high. QU's Jill Kelley made a pair of saves for the Bobcats.

Monmouth returns to action on Sunday, October 23, when the Hawks host CCSU at noon, on Senior Day and Breast Cancer Awareness Day.
