Morrison tabbed America East co-ROW
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Just two games into his career, University of Hartford men's soccer freshman Andre Morrison was tabbed the America East Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. The award comes after the Hawks posted a 1-0-1 record to kick off their 2014 season.
After earning the start in Hartford's season opener, a 1-1 draw at Holy Cross on Friday, Morrison provided the heroics for his team on Monday night in its home opener against Northeastern, delivering the game-winning tally in front of a record-breaking crowd of 2,163 at Al-Marzook Field at Alumni Stadium. In the 33rd minute, the Clarendon, Jamaica, native received a pass from redshirt sophomore defender Matt Barry on a corner kick, knocking in the lone goal of the contest, and the first of his career, with his head.
A defender, Morrison enters week number two tied with senior forward Omar Tall for the team lead in goals with one. The Hawks have one contest on the docket for this week as they are set to host the Villanova Wildcats on Saturday night at 7 p.m. The contest will be streamed live on AmericaEast.TV.
