Mount Tripped up at Saint Francis, 4-0
Loretto, Pa. (October 24, 2014) -- The Mount St. Mary's women's soccer team dropped a 4-0 road decision at Saint Francis University on Friday afternoon in Northeast Conference action at the Stokes Soccerplex. Junior goalkeeper Vicky Cocozza registered a career-high 13 saves on the day for the Mountaineers.
After a back-and-forth first half with no goals for either side, the Mount (2-15-0, 1-5-0 NEC) yielded four second-half goals to Saint Francis (3-10-4, 3-1-2 NEC) in the final 35 minutes.
In an 18-minute stretch, the defending NEC Champion Red Flash scored all four of their goals to pull away. Siobhan Bross, Mackenzie Walter, Allison LaDuke and Gabi Morales all found the back of the net for the home side on the day.
Freshman forward Jordan Fine took all of her team-high three shots in the opening half for the Mount, while reigning NEC Player of the Week Alicia Mirando fired two first-half shots. SFU goalkeeper Romina Kunze made five saves, including four in the first half.
The score remained tied at 0-0 until 10 minutes into the second half when Bross broke through to give the Red Flash a 1-0 advantage. In the 62nd minute, the lead stretched to 2-0 on Walter's strike before LaDuke and Morales tallied goals in the 67th and 73rd minutes, respectively.
Playing the entire 90 minutes between the pipes for the Mountaineers, Cocozza's 13 saves topped her previous career high of nine, which she tied earlier this season. SFU outshot the Mount by a 25-9 margin in the game.
The Mount will play its final home game of the season on Sunday, Oct. 26, at 1 p.m. versus Sacred Heart. Mount St. Mary's will host its Senior Day ceremony prior to Sunday's game.
