Mount Women's Soccer Ties Robert Morris, 0-0
Moon Township, Pa. (October 13, 2013) – For the second-consecutive game, the Mount women's soccer team held its opponent off the score board, finishing Sunday's road contest at Robert Morris in a scoreless tie in Northeast Conference action. Seniors Keriann McGettigan and Kate Murphy led the Mountaineers' offense with three shots apiece.
For the Mount (3-6-3, 1-1-1 NEC), the defense picked up its fourth shutout of the season and is one shy of tying the program record of five set by the 1996 team. Along with Friday's shutout of Wagner and the last 25 minutes of the Oct. 4 match at Fairleigh Dickinson, the Mountaineers have not allowed a goal in 225 minutes of action.
Robert Morris (4-6-3, 0-1-2 NEC) held a 22-9 advantage on shots but was never able to beat Rachel Bourne, who made three saves in the first half, or Vicky Cocozza, who finished with five saves in the second half and overtime.
The Mount had its chances to come away with the victory with four shots in the second overtime. Two of the Mount's shots were blocked, however, while McGettigan sailed her shot high and Jackie Corley missed wide right.
In regulation, the Colonials managed 19 shots to the Mount's five. Despite being outshot in the first 90 minutes of action, the Mountaineers' defense kept the visitors in the game.
The first overtime session was played between the 18-yard boxes with RMU taking just one shot and the Mount taking zero. The Mount forced the action in the second overtime with two corner kicks and four shots, but could not find the back of the net.
For the Colonials, goalkeeper Chelsea de Jager made two saves, while the offense was led by Madison Kozlowski's nine shots, including four on goal.
Next weekend, the Mount will travel to New England to play its final two road games of the regular season. The Mountaineers face off with Sacred Heart on Oct. 18 and Bryant on Oct. 20.
NOTE: Since the program's inaugural season in 1992, the Mount has five seasons with four or more shutouts.
