Natioanlly Ranked SPU Drops SFU 4-0

Seattle, WA – The SFU Clan women's soccer team faced a tough challenge this evening that they couldn’t overcome against Seattle Pacific University, falling by a score of 4-0.  The Clan knew they were in tough going into this game as SPU currently sits in first place in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference and is ranked 14th in the NCAA National Division II women’s soccer poll.  With the loss, SFU drops to 1-9-0 on the season (0-8-0 in the GNAC) while SPU climbs to 10-2-0 this year (7-1-0 in the GNAC).

The first goal of the game came in just the sixth minute of action.  Megan Lindsay got the goal for SPU, it was her sixth of the season and came unassisted.  Lindsay’s goal was scored from seven yards out to make it 1-0 SPU.
 
SPU’s second goal of the game came just a few minutes later, in the 14th minute.  This time is was Riley Dopes, with her second goal of the season.  Dopes took a throw in from Josie Graybeal and from 12 yards out, scored on a sharp right angle.

SFU was able to shut down the SPU offence the rest of the half, going into halftime trailing 2-0.

Taylor Shantz (Kamloops, BC) took over in goal for Amelia Ng (Richmond, BC) in the second half for Simon Fraser.

Seattle Pacific expanded their lead early in the second with another goal from Lindsay.  In the 53rd minute, Lindsay took a thru pass from Kelsey Jenkins.  She proceeded to get a shot on net that went low left side for the goal.

The Clan shut down the potent Seattle Pacific offence for the next 30 minutes, but SPU was able to beat SFU goalkeeper Taylor Shantz once more.  Their fourth and final goal of the evening came from Britney Langdon.  It was the first goal of the season for Langdon and it came in the 83rd minute.  After a blocked shot by Shantz, Langdon took the rebound and with a header, found the back of the net.
 
The SFU goalkeepers combined to make two saves in net for the Clan tonight while Brooke Yokers made two for SPU.

SFU will look to get back in the win column this Saturday when they travel to Ellensburg, WA to meet the 5-3-3 Central Washington Wildcats.
