Nevada falls to Boise State in the closing m
The University of Nevada soccer team closed out a two-match home stand with a 1-0 loss to Boise State Sunday afternoon at Mackay Stadium.
With the loss, Nevada drops to (3-5-3, 1-1 MW) on the season, while Boise State improves to (6-4-2, 1-1 MW).
"It's disappointing to walk away with the loss," head coach Dr. Melissa Price said. "We made some adjustments at half time. I think we had a couple of opportunities in the second half that should have been goals. That's definitely something moving forward that we will continue to work on as a team."
Both teams played the majority of the first half within the midfield, as opportunities on each of the offensive ends were limited. The match was tied 0-0 at halftime.
The two sides entered the second half aggressively looking to untie the game. Wolf Pack forward Kori Disarufino had a breakaway in the 76th minute, where she split two defenders and got off a shot on goal that was blocked, leading to a Nevada corner kick. Chrisalyn Fonte had a header attempt on the same possession that was blocked, resulting in a shot by Chelsea Fricke that was wide right. With about two minutes left in regulation, there was a scramble in front of the Wolf Pack box, where Boise State freshman Kelli Drobney tapped in the ball to give Boise State a 1-0 advantage. There was a bit of confusion on the play, as the lead official initially blew the whistle for a Broncos foul in the Wolf Pack box, but then signaled the score for Boise State. Time ran out on Nevada as Boise State escaped with the 1-0 win.
The Wolf Pack will travel to Fresno State next week for a match Friday evening. Kick-off is 7 p.m.
