Nevada hosts San Francisco in season opener
The University of Nevada soccer team will open the 2013 season at home Friday evening, as the team will host San Francisco at Mackay Stadium. Kick-off is slated for 7 p.m.
"We are excited and ready to open the regular season at home Friday night," head Coach Dr. Melissa Price said. "Leadership, confidence, courage, and an attitude of excellence are the cornerstones of our future success. We're ready to work and challenge to be one of the best teams in the Mountain West."
Dr. Melissa Price enters her fourth year at the helm of the program. Price is 1-2 in regular season openers at Nevada, defeating Hawai’i 2-0 at home last season for the program’s first win as a member of the Mountain West. The match marks the first of three consecutive home matches for the Wolf Pack. Following the contest against San Francisco, Nevada will face Eastern Washington and Wright State at Mackay Stadium next weekend.
San Francisco leads the overall series with Nevada 2-3-1. The Dons defeated the Wolf Pack 2-0 last season in San Francisco. Nevada’s last win against the team came during a 1-0 decision on the road in 2010.
The 2013 University of Nevada soccer team enters the season looking to build on its second round Mountain West tournament finish last year. The squad begins its second Mountain West campaign with a good mix of veteran leadership and youth on the roster (five seniors, seven juniors, six sophomores, and seven freshmen). The team returns eight starters from the 2012 club that ended the year with a 1-0 loss to New Mexico in the semifinal round of the MW tournament, following a 1-0 win over Boise State in the quarterfinals.
Fans can now purchase Nevada soccer season tickets. Season tickets are just $50 for adults, $30 for seniors, and $35 for youth 8th grade and younger (youth ticket includes a pass to all home football games!). For more info visit nevadawolfpack.com or call 775-348-PACK.
