NJIT's Guirassy and Pujades Earn ASUN Honors
LAKEPOINT, GA— NJIT senior Mamadou Guirassy and sophomore Victor Pujades were selected ASUN Conference Men's Soccer weekly honorees, the league office announced on Monday.
Guirassy and Lipscomb's Logan Paynter were selected Player of the Week while Pujades was named Defensive Player of the Week.
The Highlander forward from Paris, France picked up his second consecutive Player of the Week honor, scoring three goals and added an assist to register seven points as the Highlanders remain the lone unbeaten team in the ASUN.
He scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win at LIU Brooklyn by chipping the goalie on a breakaway.
The senior scored twice in NJIT's 2017 home opener and assisted on the third goal as the Highlanders won 3-0 against a St. Francis Brooklyn, a team that was 4-1 entering the match.
Guirassy leads the ASUN and all of Division I with eight goals this season.
Pujades earns his second-straight ASUN Defensive Player of the Week honor after posting two shutouts last week for the Highlanders.
The sophomore keeper made nine saves in both matches and earned his fourth and fifth shutout of the season.
Pujades made six saves in the 1-0 win at LIU Brooklyn, then followed up with three more stops against St. Francis Brooklyn in NJIT's 3-0 shutout.
He lowered his goal against average to an ASUN-best 0.33 and now has five shutouts in six matches played this season.
