No. 12 JMU Loses 2-0 at Drexel
PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 1, 2011 – The 12th-ranked James Madison men’s soccer team was held scoreless for the first time this season as Drexel got two second-half goals in a 2-0 win over the Dukes Tuesday afternoon at Vidas Field.
The Dragons improved their Colonial Athletic Association record to 4-5-1. Drexel has a 5-10-2 overall record.
JMU, which saw its winning streak end at four games, has a 12-3-1 overall record and is 8-2 in CAA play. The Dukes have already locked up the number one seed in the six-team CAA tournament and will host the event on Nov. 10, 11 and 13.
Drexel scored in the 60th minute as the Dragons took advantage of a ball that the JMU defense failed to clear, and Tal Bublik put the ball in the net for a 1-0 Drexel lead.
The Dragons then scored on a counter-attack with just 1:59 left as the Dukes were pushing forward in an attempt to tie the game. Malcolm LeBourne dribbled toward the left corner of the goal, drawing JMU redshirt senior goalkeeper Justin Epperson (Herndon, Va./Oakton) out to defend him. He then slipped a pass across the box to Manuel Cazares, who knocked the ball into the goal.
JMU held a 17-14 advantage on shots. Drexel goalie Penttii Pussinen made three stops to get the shutout, and Epperson finished with two saves.
The Dukes conclude regular-season play Saturday (Nov. 5) at Hofstra (7 p.m.)
