No. 16 Louisville Rallies Past Bakersfield
LOUISVILLE, Ky.--Zack Foxhoven's goal with 5:42 remaining capped off a No. 16 Louisville rally as the Cardinals defeated Bakersfield 4-2 in men's soccer action Sunday afternoon.
Eduardo Caldaza (So., S. Los Angeles, Calif., Roosevelt HS) got the 'Runners on the board first when he scored in the seventh minute. David Velasquez (R-Jr., Los Angeles, Calif., Locke HS) gave the 'Runners a two-goal advantage with a tally at the 42:00 mark.
Jimmy Ockford scored 50 seconds into the second half off a Cardinals' free kick to get Louisville to within one. 4:55 later, the Cardinals went a man down when Daniel Keller was issued a redcard. Ivan Guterrez tied the match in the 59th minute with a blast from 20 yards out that went over the head of CSUB goalie Anthony Perez (R-So., Fontana, Calif., Bloomington HS).
Foxhaven's gamewinning goal made it past Perez inside the right post after a deep crossing pass from Andrew Brody. Giovanni Godoy's (Fr., Watsonville, Calif., Watsonville HS) shot with just under two minutes emaining was saved by Joachim Ball. On insuing Lousiville possession Marlon Hairston added an insurance goal with 1:01 to go with a ball that beat Perez inside the far post
"Hugely disappointing to take a 2-0 halftime lead and throw it away," said Bakersfield head coach Simon Tobin. "Louisville is an excellent team but our second half performance was very poor and we allowed a season making performance to slip away."
Bakersfield plays its first home match of the 2013 season Thursday night when the Roadrunners host UC Riverside at 6 p.m.
