GOLDEN – Three more players manufactured their first scores of the season and NSCAA No. 16 Colorado School of Mines women's soccer turned in a machinelike 5-0 win over Colorado State-Pueblo on Friday in Golden.
The Orediggers (12-1-2, 9-1-1 RMAC) began their season-high goal output in the 21st minute as junior Deirdre Johnson found freshman Laya Rybicki for her team-best fifth of the season.
A foul on a scoring run in the box allowed junior Mel Westhoff to convert at the 12-yard dash with 6:42 to play in the initial 45:00.
Shortly upon coming on at half, senior Maddie Woodard struck a through ball from sophomore Holly Weyand six yards to center net to extend the lead to 3-0 at 47:39.
Mines added two scores across the closing 9:44; sophomore Jaclyn Knott set up freshman Devon Dunmire with a right endline feed to front net in the 81st minute, before a CSU-Pueblo (5-7-2, 3-6-2 RMAC) defensive mishit resulted in an own goal with 2:11 left.
The women directed 11 of their season-best 26 shots on frame, led by two apiece from Woodard and freshman Brooke Stoermer. Rybicki, Westhoff, Weyand, Dunmire, senior Kenzie King and redshirt freshman Julia Hawn each had one.
The first-time markers by Westhoff, Woodard and Dunmire raised the team's number of individuals with at least one goal to 17.
Junior Jayln Yates earned two saves over 80:16 to improve to 12-1-2.
The Orediggers conclude the weekend homestand against Western State at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
