No. 22 Rowan blanks Rutgers-Camden
GLASSBORO, N.J. (Sept. 25, 2013) – The Rowan University women’s soccer team has been rolling up the shutouts on its way to a No. 22 ranking in the latest D3soccer.com Top 25 poll.
The Profs added another shutout here Wednesday night as they blanked Rutgers University-Camden, 3-0, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game. It was the seventh shutout of the season for Rowan, which improves to 8-1 overall and is 1-0 in the NJAC.
Rutgers-Camden falls to 3-4-1 and 1-1.
Sophomore forward Sherry Oller (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) started the scoring at 31:48. She knocked in a shot by junior forward Erika Suhl (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial), which went into the right side of the Rutgers-Camden net.
At 57:02, junior back/midfielder Victoria Camera (Hamilton, NJ/Hamilton West) headed in a corner kick by senior forward Dayna Sakalsky (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central).
Sakalsky had the final goal at 83:01 with a shot just inside the box.
Rowan outshot Rutgers-Camden, 21-4, and freshman goalie Carleigh Trivino (Caldwell, NJ/Caldwell) made two saves for her fourth solo shutout. For the Scarlet Raptors, senior keeper Lauren West (Mantua, NJ/Clearview Regional) turned away eight shots.
Senior midfielder Dawn Dixon (Lumberton, NJ/Rancocas Valley Regional) had two of the four Raptor shots and both of Rutgers-Camden’s shots on goal.
The Scarlet Raptors return to action Saturday when they host Kean University in a 1 p.m. NJAC game. The Cougars are ranked 10th in the latest NSCAA South Atlantic Regional ratings.
