WICHITA FALLS, Texas - No. 3 Midwestern State needed little time to dispatch NAIA Central Baptist to turn its home unbeaten string to 34 matches with a 7-0 win Friday night at the MSU Soccer Field. "We always come out firing on all cylinders the first match in front of the home fans," MSU coach Doug Elder said. "We weren''t really tested defensively, but it was a good performance because we have some serious tests ahead." The Mustangs hit the road for a five-game stretch starting at Colorado State-Pueblo and Colorado-Colorado Springs next weekend before opening Lone Star Conference play against Incarnate Word in San Antonio on Sep. 16. But the Mustangs used swift ball movement to hit Central Baptist with a barrage of tallies in the first half as sophomore transfer Chase Robertson scored on his substitution run onto the pitch in the 24th minute off of a serve from Sam Broadbent. Then Broadbent got in on the scoring in his right off of a combination of passes through Robertson and Sam Bartek to put the Mustangs up 2-0 in the 27th minute. Broadbent would remain active in the 35th minute on another one-two combination buried by Michael Ramirez to give MSU a commanding 3-0 halftime advantage. "When we played one and two touches, we played well," Elder said. "When we didn''t we didn''t do as well. Obviously, I wasn''t displeased with the attack because we scored goals." The goals continued to come in the second half. Casey Hibbs, Zach Funk, B.A. Catney and Ryan Spence put the goal in the back of the net as seven different MSU players entered the scoring column. Senior goalkeeper Michael Wood stopped one shot and redshirt-freshman Noah Fazekas made two saves to complete the shutout. MSU outshot Central Baptist 27-5. Central Baptist fell to 1-2 on the season.
