No. 6 Orediggers, Zias Play To Scoreless Draw
PORTALES, N.M. – The NSCAA No. 6 Colorado School of Mines women's soccer team controlled much of the play Sunday afternoon at Eastern New Mexico, but was held scoreless for the first time this season, playing to a 0-0 draw with the Zias in double overtime at ENMU Soccer Field in Portales.
Mines (3-0-1) held decisive advantages in shots (28-6) and corner attempts (8-0), yet failed to convert on any of its nine shots on goal.
Senior Anna Evans finished with a game-high four on-goal shots on eight tries. Senior Bree Archuleta and Kelsey Neal, junior Kendra Bulawa and freshmen Caitlin Kaltenbaugh and Anna Deleray each had one shot on frame.
The 28 shots eclipsed Friday's season-high total of 24 and were the most since the women tallied 31 in back-to-back games against ENMU and Washburn in Sept., 2012.
Sophomore Jayln Yates (3-0-1) earned her third straight shutout in goal and ninth in the last 11 games with five saves between regulation and both overtimes.
Despite no scoring, the Orediggers' program-record unbeaten streak was extended to 18 straight games, while their cumulative minutes mark without a deficit was raised to 999:59 minutes. Mines has not trailed since the first half against UC-Colorado Springs on Oct. 26, 2012.
With the non-conference season complete, the women return to Golden to open the RMAC slate, hosting Colorado State-Pueblo (3-0) at 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20.
