No. 7 Women’s Soccer Triumphs Late At CCU
LAKEWOOD – NSCAA No. 7 Colorado School of Mines women's soccer controlled much of the field of play Sunday afternoon at Colorado Christian, but needed a late score in the closing 10 minutes to escape with the 1-0 win at Trailblazer Stadium in Lakewood.
Mines (6-0-1, 2-0 RMAC) outshot the Cougars 14-1 and 3-1 in tries on frame – the last proving to be the game-winner as sophomore Anna Deleray headed a 30-yard cross from senior Kendra Bulawa with 8:16 to play in regulation.
Deleray, who led all players with two shots on target, became the ninth Oredigger to register a goal this season. Junior Rachael Turner added the other shot on goal on three attempts.
Junior Jayln Yates (5-0-1) made one save in 90:00 minutes en route to taking over sole possession of the school's shutouts record with her RMAC-best tying fourth of the season and 27th in 51 career matches.
The win moved the Orediggers into a tie for 11th in Division II chronicles in consecutive conference wins with 21 and extended their consecutive conference games without a loss streak to 28 – 15th-longest in history.
Mines returns to the pitch at 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 26 against Regis in Denver.
