No. 8 Rangers Brought Down by Colorado Mesa
Grand Junction, Colorado: Breaking the win streak and handing the No. 8 Regis University Ranger men’s soccer team their first loss in five games was the Colorado Mesa Mavericks (8-2-1, 6-1-0 RMAC) in a Friday night Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference showdown. Both teams entered the contest with one RMAC loss vying for complete control of the conference.
Play in the first half was fairly even with both squads having multiple scoring opportunities but would remain scoreless headed into halftime. Sophomore goalkeeper Connor Adkisson (Federal Way, Washington) pitched a shutout between the posts in the first half making two saves and facing four shots.
The lone goal of the game came shortly after play in the second half begun in the 58th minute. The Rangers could never recover from the blow and move to 8-2 overall and 5-2 in the RMAC. Junior goalkeeper Christian Nicolosi (Highlands Ranch, Colorado) subbed in at halftime and made one save. Regis outshot Mesa 11-7 and saw four corner kick chances.
RU hosts Adams State (1-9, 0-7 RMAC) on Sunday, October 12 at 3:30 p.m. These two teams faced each other at the end of September and Regis came out on top with a 3-0 result.
