No. 9 A&M Holds Off Razorbacks
FAYETTEVILLE - No. 9 Texas A&M got two first-half goals from Kelley Monogue and added an insurance score in the second half to hold of Arkansas 3-1 in Southeastern Conference soccer at Razorback Field on Friday.
Arkansas trailed 2-0 30 minutes into the game but cut the margin in half before the end of the first period and was within striking distance until the 77th minute.
At 76:44, Jayne Eadie, after a Razorback foul, played a free kick from 40 yards away into the box and Meghan Streight was able to get between Arkansas defenders and scored from 12 yards out. The score helped ensure the win for A&M, which improved to 13-2-1 overall and 7-1-1 in the SEC.
Arkansas is 6-8-1 overall and 3-5-1 in the league.
"It's a mixed bag," head coach Colby Hale said. "A&M is very talented and is very well-coached. We made some mistakes and they punished us. For 90 minutes, we feel like we can play with anyone. We worked extremely hard. When we do the work and pay attention to the little things, we're tough to beat. Tonight, we had some missed assignments and we gave up a couple of goals. That's what's frustrating, but there are some positives we'll take from it and get ready for Auburn on Sunday."
