No. 9 Orediggers Wrangle West Texas A&M, 3-0

CANYON, Texas – Led by a stout defensive presence and a trio of second half goals, the NSCAA No. 9 Colorado School of Mines women's soccer team shut out West Texas A&M 3-0 Saturday afternoon at the Buffalo Sports Park in Canyon, Texas.

Mines (2-0, 0-0 RMAC) limited the host Lady Buffs to just six total shots and two shots on goal to bump its program-record unbeaten streak to 16 in a row. With the shutout, CSM raised its consecutive minutes total without facing a deficit to 799:59.

Offensively, the Orediggers were in full control, peppering 21 shots and 13 shots on frame, including a 13-4 shots advantage in the decisive second stanza.

Despite outshooting WTAMU (0-2) 8-2 in the first half and placing six shots on target, the women did not open the scoring until 2:51 into the second when sophomore Rachael Turner recorded her first of the season off a feed from classmate Mel Westhoff.

The Orediggers ceased to slow their offensive pressure and in the 81st minute added an insurance score as freshman Jaclyn Knott earned her first collegiate goal with fellow newcomer Cari Smith providing the assist.

Less than six minutes later with 3:51 remaining, Knott found the scoring column for a second time, heading in a pass from freshman Michelle Teramura for the game's ending margin.

Turner and senior Anna Evans shared the team lead with four shots on goal, while Knott landed two of her three shots on net.

Freshmen Caitlin Kaltenbaugh, Holly Weyand and Anna Deleray each forced a save as Mines had its most shots on goal since a 3-0 win against Washburn (16) on Sept. 8, 2012.

Sophomore Jayln Yates (2-0) collected two saves in the shutout, her seventh clean slate in nine games.

The Orediggers return to Colorado for their home-opener at 7 p.m. next Friday, Sept. 13 against in-region foe St. Mary's.
