DURHAM, N.C. – A goal from junior captain Donovan Fayd'Herbe de Maudave and six saves from sophomore goalkeeper Dylan Faber led the Northeastern men's soccer team (0-0-1) to a 1-1 draw against Elon (0-0-1) on Friday night at the John Rennie / Nike Invitational.

The Huskies took an early lead in the 10th minute on Fayd'Herbe de Maudave's first of the season, but a conversion from Matt Wescoe on a penalty kick in the 79th minute evened the score at one.

In a battle between two NCAA tournament teams from a season ago, Elon held a slight edge in shots (13-9) and corners (7-2).

Fayd'Herbe de Maudave got the Huskies off to a quick start when he maneuvered past a couple Phoenix defenders before delivering a strike into the top left corner from 15 yards out.

Elon, who managed three shots in the first 45 minutes, could not solve Faber and the NU defense. Fayd'Herbe de Maudave, had a chance to put Northeastern up by two in the 41st minute on a free kick, but Phoenix goalkeeper Nathan Dean (three saves), knocked it away.

NU continued to apply pressure on the Elon goal following intermission, including a pair of chances in the 55th and 69th minute, but the Huskies could not find the back of the net.

Austin Dunker almost leveled the score for the Phoenix in the 75th minute with a hard shot from the top left corner of the box, but Faber held his ground to secure the ball.

Four minutes later, however, Elon took advantage of a Husky foul to tie the match when Phoenix forward Thorsten Pacher drew a foul on the Faber as both were jostling for the ball in the box. Wescoe converted on the penalty kick to tie the match at 1-1.

Neither team could bury the game-winner in extra time, but Faber continued to give the Huskies a chance with three of his six saves coming in overtime.

Northeastern is back in action on Sunday afternoon when the Huskies take on Duke at 2:30 p.m. from Koskinen Stadium.
