Northeastern women's soccer heads to Europe
BOSTON – The Northeastern women's soccer program is set for its first-ever global experience trip as the Huskies will head to Montpellier, France and Barcelona, Spain from March 2-11. The nine-day experience is highlighted by a combination of team activities, community service, games against European opposition, sightseeing and a number of unforgettable cultural excursions.
"We are thrilled for the opportunity to take our program to France and Spain this spring," said head coach Ashley Phillips. "We are extremely grateful for this opportunity, which will allow our players to be immersed in the culture and history of Europe while also enjoying a few games."
After departing from Boston on Friday, March 2, the Huskies will arrive in Montpellier – the seventh-largest city in France – the following evening. The team will spend four days in the south of France, taking part in a community service project, touring an olive oil farm, playing a friendly match against a local club team, and seeing the sights, including an ancient Roman aqueduct and the Chateau Bas d'Aumelas, a 13th century castle with an organic vineyard.
The Huskies will then travel southwest, along the coastline of the Mediterranean Sea, to Barcelona, Spain, where the team will spend an additional four days. Upon arriving, the squad is scheduled to take a tour of the Camp Nou, home stadium of FC Barcelona, as well as a bicycle tour of the city's Gothic Quarter and its narrow, picturesque streets. The Huskies will play another friendly match against a local club in Barcelona, and will visit the majestic Sagrada Familia as well as Montjuic Castle with its stunning views of the city and Mediterranean.
After an unforgettable week, the team will depart Barcelona on Sunday, March 11 to return home to Boston.
