ODU falls to FIU in C-USA Quarterfinals
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Old Dominion men’s soccer team fell to FIU, 4-2, in the quarterfinals of the Conference USA Tournament on Tuesday night in Charlotte, North Carolina.
FIU (10-6-1, 3-4-1) went ahead early on a goal from Paul Marie in the 12th minute. Marie received a through ball from Daniel Gonzalez and slotted a shot into the upper left corner of the net. The Panthers added another goal in the 27th minute, when Luis Betancur sent a 25-yard shot into the back of the net.
ODU (8-5-3, 3-3-2) cut the lead in half in the 33rd minute, as Josue Henriquez ran onto a long ball from Ivan Militar and flicked a shot past the FIU keeper and into the lower right corner. The goal was Henriquez’ team-leading sixth of the year.
The Panthers carried the 2-1 lead into halftime, holding a 7-3 advantage in the shot column at the break.
The Monarchs evened the score back at 2-2 just moments into the second half, as Ryan Condotta converted a penalty kick in the 47th minute.
FIU then pulled back ahead in the 79th minute on a goal from Daniel Gonzalez. The Panthers added an insurance goal in the 82nd minute from Jamar Campion-Hinds.
Alex Tiesenhausen recorded four saves in net for ODU, while Jesse Miralrio tallied a team-high four shots.
