ODU Men’s Soccer Silences Timberwolves 5-0
MIDLAND, Mich. – With the help of senior Casey Weddle and freshman Brent Wahle, the Ohio Dominican men's soccer team silenced the Northwood Timberwolves 5-0 in Midland, Michigan Friday evening, Sep. 28.
With their second shutout of the season, ODU improves to a 5-3-1 overall record and 4-2 in the conference while the Timberwolves fall to 3-3-1 overall and 3-3 in GLIAC action.
Kicking his second penalty kick of the season, Weddle (Cincinnati, Ohio) sent the ball past Timberwolves goalie Johannes Sterobo in the 13th minute to give the Panthers the early 1-0 lead.
Just seven minutes later, Wahle (Pataskala, Ohio) recorded his first goal of the season after senior Colby Catlett (Hilliard, Ohio) dribbled down the right side and placed the ball into an open area to give Wahle an uncontested shot on goal.
Catlett once again found Whale as Whale connected for his second goal of the game at the 29:12 mark to give the Panthers a 3-0 lead.
Following the break, sophomore Jakob Szabo (Worthington, Ohio) found senior Justin Wheeler (Gahanna, Ohio) on a cross from the left side on the six yard line to score the first goal of the second half.
At the 66:02 mark, Szabo found Weddle this time after dribbling down the middle of the field for Weddle to put the ball in the back of the net from 13 yards out for the fifth and final goal of the game.
The Panthers held an 11-7 advantage on shots, including a 8-4 edge on shots on goal.
Freshman goalie Macklin Robinson (Cincinnati, Ohio) picked up his second win of his young career, notching three saves.
The Panthers continue their trip in Michigan, traveling to Saginaw Valley on Sunday, Sep. 30 for a 1:00 conference matchup.
