Palmer Lifts SEU Over MSU Denver in 2OT
THE RUNDOWN
AUSTIN, Texas – Junior Morgan Palmer scored in the 115th minute for the match’s only goal and helped the No. 23-ranked St. Edward’s University women’s soccer edge MSU Denver 1-0 Saturday at Lewis-Chen Family Field.
Palmer’s first goal of the season — and fourth of her career — came off the rebound of Gracen Jacks’ blocked shot on a corner kick from Jenna Lipscomb. SEU’s (2-0) Ocoee Wilson notched two key saves for her second shutout of the season at goalie, and the HIlltopper defensive unit limited the Roadrunners (1-1) two eight shots and five corner kicks.
HIGHLIGHTS
- SEU’s 2-0 start is the 11th consecutive season the HIlltoppers have begun the season at 2-0.
- Palmer matched her season total from a year ago with Saturday’s goal; she scored two goals as a freshman and one last season as a sophomore.
- Lipscomb has assisted on both Hilltopper goals this season and now has eight for her career after leading SEU with six a season ago.
- Wilson, the sophomore transfer from Dallas Baptist, now has two shutouts on the season.
STAT OF THE GAME I
10 – SEU’s 10 corner kicks doubled the Roadrunners’ five, and it was the 10th from Jenna Lipscomb that led to Morgan Palmer’s game winner.

SEU Head Coach Nick Cowell on the win over MSU Denver
“Obviously, Metro is a very strong team; they’re coming off of a win against Dallas Baptist up there last Thursday. So, we knew that they would be a real handful, and they play a very hard style to play against. They put a lot of players behind the ball and try to catch you on the counter attack with their speed. We knew that they didn’t have many subs so, you know they were tired from Thursday night. I thought going into overtime today we had the superior fitness, we have better depth on our team and I think that kind of is the thing that showed in the end as we still had energy at the end.”
Cowell on Palmer’s heroics …
“Morgan’s a player for us that’s really coming along in terms of the fitness level that she brings. She’s always the one who runs the most during games. She has the highest intensity levels of any one of our players, breaks up a lot of plays defensively and I’m really happy for her that she’s started to show up on the offensive side of things today.”
